The Fifth Toy Story Film Trailer Pits The Beloved Duo Against a Tablet Computer

Exactly 30 anniversary since the first Toy Story film debuted, establishing Pixar as a major animation studio and bringing viewers to beloved characters like Woody (the actor) and Buzz Lightyear (the voice talent), who are now famous worldwide.

In 2026, the fifth installment is set to arrive. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 landed recently, providing a glimpse into the plot but leaving fans wondering how it will address the conclusion of Toy Story 4.

Bonnie's New Toy: A Digital Device Spooks the Gang

The preview shows the young girl — who received the toy collection when he grew up — getting a brand new toy, one that alarms Woody, Buzz, and the crew. She acquires her initial digital gadget, and she is excited about it.

Theoretically, the frog-shaped tablet will come to life just like Bonnie's other toys. However, the characters seem to view it as a threat coming to replace them, which it likely will.

Woody's Return: Mysteries from Toy Story 4

One thing the teaser doesn't touch on is why Woody is back with his friends in Bonnie's room. The end of Toy Story 4 depicted him embark on a new adventure with the shepherdess (the actress), traveling with a carnival and helping giveaway items locate loving owners.

Surely, Pixar will address the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Seeing him appear in Bonnie's room without warning is a little strange, though. It also raises questions whether Bo Peep will have come back with Woody. And what about Duke Caboom (Keanu Reeves)?

Connections from the Last Installment

At the very least, some elements are continuing from the earlier movie. The final act Woody did before departing for his new life was hand over his sheriff badge to the cowgirl (the voice actor), leaving her as the leader of Bonnie's bedroom. The clip displays the badge pinned to her shirt.

Hopefully she is still the key figure among the group.

Toy Story 5 debuts on the scheduled date.
